Blood Brothers! / Stranger from Space

Super Request Sunday this month features two cool Atlas tales of horror! Our first story is from the Sept. '52 issue of Suspense #22 and is for Joey Deadcat who put in a request for more George Roussos earlier this month. And the second tale is for John Kaminiski, it’s a far-out Sci-Fi classic with some weird Matt Fox inked art by Gil Kane, (thanks Tamfos!) from the Oct. '53 issue of Mystic #24.

Got a request too? Drop me a line--- anytime! And don’t forget to cast your vote on the THOIA poll before the month is over! All Atlas again or not in July--- you decide!

I don't even have to read 'Blood brothers' to remember how creepy this story was! I had this issue years ago and sold it, it's probably the scariest use of pigs in horror fiction you'll ever see.

Yes, even in HANNIBAl. Yes, even in the original 'To Serve Man' story. Yes, even in Atlas's own 'the Hog'.

Interesting how the scientist is named 'Trask', too. Maybe he should've sent out giant robot sentinels out to hunt pigs intsead of the X-men.

Great stuff.

......AAAANNNND let's ignore the honest-to-gosh-effectivenesss of this story, and let the bacon jokes commence....

That's Matt Fox inking Gil Kane, the way he did a few times over Larry Lieber for a handful of Atlas stories. Lieber, BTW, apparently didn't like Fox's inks. Go figure.

The moral of the story is, never trust a pig or plutonian.

Blood Brothers is one of the most imaginative and genuinely disturbing stories I've read on here. It's a real 'dream logic' nightmare piece the way it plays out. Thanks for posting it!

You're absolutely right Trevor... and I'd like to thank Joey Deadcat for reminding me how good it is too! Sometimes that's the beauty of reader requests around here, it forces me to pull out an issue and post something I may have simply forgotten about, or overlooked.

So who have we forgotten in our All Atlas Month fest? Surely there's one name that strikes fear in the hearts of pre-code readers (and fellow Atlas bullpen artists) like no other? Did someone say Bill Everet? Yup. We'll be featuring him next, along with another request for Joe Maneely too! It's all coming next, as we wind down what has undoubtably been one of my favortie months since I started this blog!

re: the "Suspense Sanctuary"-

"i don't like horror! i like war! and soldiers! i'm reading the wrong comic! i'm an idiot!"

Thanks for putting up the Blood Brothers story! A very nightmarish and weird tale! While it's from the Atlas era there's definitely a Warren feel to it.

Dug The Stranger From Space as well! Both stories play out the nightmarish scenario of us being lower on the food chain!

Those Plutonians sure have a way of showing gratitude!

And "Blood Brothers" is an amazing tale that serves as an example of how Atlas was perhaps slightly better than EC. This sort of bizarre happenings never really occurred in EC tales (but then again, the realism in EC crime stories is what made them so great).

"Blood Brothers" can be used as propaganda to help convert people towards being more compassionate with our four-legged friends. I don't think I'll eat sausage again!

I voted for more Atlas!

I have a lot of catching up to do here!

I know it's pitiful but I just finally saw V For Vendetta. Not exactly Horror, still I thought of you.

That's a compliment right?
